Rating: Stars

Moss Wood Semillon 2005 and Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 in Perfect Tens in the Gourmet Traveller WINE February/March 2007 issue.

Peter Bourne, Andrew Caillard MW, Peter Forrestal, Sophie Otton and Nick Bulleid MW chose 10 of the best of Australia’s top wine styles and rated them.

MOSS WOOD SEMILLON 2005 In contrast to the Hunter style, Bulleid thought Moss Wood’s 2005 semillon to be fuller in body and alcohol (14.5 per cent) with power and texture heading towards more green bean and asparagus. Caillard thought it herbal and grassy but mineral, tangy and long. 5 stars

MOSS WOOD CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2003 Moss Wood’s 2003 cabernet was beautiful varietal, with excellent fruit concentration and balanced oak. For Forrestal it was elegant. Bourne felt that, although it was good now, it really needed time to integrate. Bulleid agreed, noting its fragrant aromatics. Caillard wrote of the wines lovely pure cassis, cedar, mocha aromas with touches of rose and violet. Well-balanced with fine, ripe tannins finishing long and sweet. 5 stars
