Moss Wood 2017 Chardonnay – Bob Campbell, The Real Review
A weighty, flavoursome chardonnay firmly-structured and with good acidity. Peach, grapefruit, struck flint, mineral and spicy oak flavours, with a toasty and nutty lees influence. . . .

Moss Wood planted their first Chardonnay vines in 1976, making them one of the variety’s earliest adopters in Australia. They reckon that the 2017 is one of their best. It would appear that the punters agree, as despite just being released they’ve already sold out at the winery. The 2017 Chardonnay is available however at bottle shops and restaurants. Why the fuss about this release? Firstly it’s in the classic Moss Wood style- rich and round with old vine fruit overriding the oak influence. But its the extra detail in the wine that makes the difference in this vintage. Ever changing flavours of peach, grapefruit, honey, carmel and nuts. You’ll reach for the glass again and again.

Moss Wood Pinot Noir 2016 has just been released and it is very good indeed. It’s medium to full bodied with depth to the strawberry and cherry flavours and finishes brightly. There’s also a hint of tangy sourness and earthy complexity. Moss Wood released their first Pinot in 1977 long before Pinot became widely embraced by the Australian public in the mid 2000’s. Keith Mugford’s craft and experience are apparent here in the best Moss Wood Pinot I’ve tasted. If you haven’t tried it before it will defy expectations of what can be done with Pinot in the region. It’s also highly age worthy.

Light, clear crimson-purple; a fragrant and fresh merlot, with attractive red berry fruits on both bouquet and palate, French oak adding its influence, but respectfully so; the tannins are fine, ripe and in balance. True merlot varietal character on display.

Moss Wood Ribbon Vale 2015 Merlot – David Bicknell, James Halliday Wine Companion
Dark crimson-red. Ripe blackcurrant, black olive, leaf and dark plum lead this wine to medium-bodied texture with slightly firm gravelly tannins. Good now but probably better with several years.
Moss Wood Ribbon Vale 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon – David Bicknell, James Halliday Wine Companion
Opaque crimson. Strong ripe blackcurrant, hints of blue fruits and cedary overtones. Medium to full-bodied with strong oak support that drives the wine forward, intensifying the tannins and grip. Not now, later.
