Moss Wood 2011 Chardonnay – Joondalup Weekender

Rating: Stars

We could say “rubbish” again or perhaps instead we could say, “Geez, have you tried this latest Moss Wood chardonnay?” The Mugfords, the Moss Wood winemakers and owners, believe this vintage is at least in their best few vintages to date, albeit of a significant change in style. This is a finer, leaner and drier chardonnay than ever before (off this single vineyard site’) but with no less complexity, and it is a better wine for it. This wine confirms Moss Wood’s deserved presence among Margaret River’s top chardonnay producers. 69 and worth it. We could say “rubbish” THERE are national wine writers who believe that single vineyard wines are superior to others. Rubbish. The best wine at the price is the one to go and buy. Some believe that the Wilyabrup vineyards do not have the chardonnay potential of the Margaret River township sites and that their chardonnay vines should be ripped out.
