Moss Wood 2024 Autrement Pinot Noir – Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate

Points: 91
Rating: Stars

The 2024 Autrement Pinot Noir features fruit grown in Karridale, in Margaret River’s cooler, wetter south. The area is impacted by the cold, wild winds off the Southern Ocean (next stop, Antarctica) and produces fruit that is distinctly different in style from the rest of the region—”autrement” is the French word for “differently” or “otherwise.” The wine is layered with cherry notes and poached strawberry, with acidity that feels precise and fresh. The wine is fleshy and ripe, with subtle maple/caramel notes woven through the edges of perception. The wine shows an orange hint of color at the very rim of the meniscus, which is also of interest. All in all, it’s a lovely wine to drink soon, although the older Moss Wood Pinots are still proving their drinking windows wrong.
