The 2024 Botrytis Semillon leads with honey and lemon curd, honeycomb, pineapple, cut grass and brine-laced acidity that weaves its way in and out of the folds of sweetness. This is very pretty and quite sweet—no surprise, but here I refer to the balance of fruit and acid rather than just the presence of sugar. And it is light through the finish. It would pair well with a charred pineapple dish for dessert. 12% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. Drink date: 2026 – 2036.

Cellaring
The 2024 Botrytis Semillon is approachable now, with its generous fruit and sweetness already well integrated. However, the concentration of flavour and natural acidity will support further development in bottle. Over the medium term (10-15 years), the wine will gain additional honeyed and toasty complexity, with greater integration and depth. It will reward careful cellaring for those who prefer more developed bottle-aged characters.
The start
Planted in 1969, Moss Wood is a founding estate of the Margaret River wine region. Clare and Keith Mugford have been tending the vineyard and making wine at Moss Wood since 1984 and 1979, respectively. Their exacting viticulture produces grapes of excellent quality, creating a stable of fine wines distinguished by their consistency and ability to age superbly.
